The true alchemists do not change lead into gold; they change the world into words. – William H. Gass

您好!I’m Christy, and this blog was born on an afternoon of procrastinating from revising for my IB mocks. I write poems, review books, take photos and make whatever I fancy into an essay prompt. Thanks for stopping by!

Where’s home?
I was born and raised in Hong Kong (New York City on steroids), but I also lived in England for a few years.

So do you speak Chinese?
I speak Cantonese, Mandarin and English, and un peu de French. I tried (and failed) to learn Latin (salve, amicus!). I’ll be starting Korean this coming autumn!

Tea or coffee?

Cats or dogs?
Both! But I’m the human of only one dog, a pseudo-Pomeranian called Opal.

Favourite books?
This changes so frequently. Right now, my top five are North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (of course). Check out my Goodreads!

Favourite films?
3 Idiots (Bollywood), 我少女的時代/Our Times (Taiwanese), Love Actually, Singin’ in the Rain, La La Land, The Martian, The Lion King, Mulan and Cinderella (2015).

What else do you do besides blogging?
I’ll be starting my second year of medical school, which should take up most of my time. If you’re studying medicine in Hong Kong too, maybe I’ll see you around!

  1. Hello Christy,
I am bowled over by your wonderful descriptions of life’s adventures big and small. And your very comprehensive book reviews. I noticed that science fiction is one of your interest areas—brace yourself here it comes—and thought you might consider reviewing my sci-fi fi thriller: East of the Out-Lands. I will provide a paperback or Kindle if you are tempted enough to sample an exciting read about Southern California two hundred years in the hot and dangerous future. Be well, Dick Heimbold
